The car was manufactured in Weissach and delivered to Martin Flitton on February 23, 2001. The first race in Imola was April 15.
The Supercup Series is the warm up race for European Formula One events plus the American Grand Prix. Martin's goal was to field a British team with a British driver and try to compete at the top level of Supercup. He was only able to find one English driver, Jamie Hunter, for the team. Tragically, Jamie was killed in an auto accident returning home from a race weekend. Jackie Van der Ende was hired to replace Jamie and drove the # 7 car for the balance of the season. While they didn't finish in the top three, as Martin had hoped for, the first year effort was highly respectable for both drivers and team. Indianapolis was the last race of the supercup season and had two races because of a rainout during the season. Martin chose not to come to Indy because of the exorbitant transportation costs due to the attacks of 9/11.
Martin Flitton is the manager of Michael Flatley, creator of "Lord of the Dance". A promotional shot was staged at the Lord Montagu of Beaulieu's estate with the lord and all the girls from the show. Originally the shot included two girls sitting on the top of car #8, which explains the cheek marks in the roof of the car today. His Lordship has one of the largest private collections of automobliles in the world. See his car collection.
The drivers for the team were Jesper Carlsen and Jamie Hunt/Jackie Van der Ende. Pictured are (l to r) Martin, Jesper, Jackie, and Jackie's buddy.
